ELEMENTARY BUILDING PROJECT

School Building Committee Meeting Presentations

On December 2, 2019, at Rockland Town Meeting and on December 7th at a Special Town Election, Rockland citizens voted to fund the construction of a new, 86 million dollar, 760 student elementary school. In partnership with the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), the new school building will be built on “the oval” between the current Memorial Park School and the Rogers Middle School and will house all students in grades 1-4. The new building will replace the aging Jefferson and Memorial Park Elementary Schools. The Jefferson School will be taken down and the land will be cleared and turned over to the Parks Department as part of an Article 97 land swap. The Memorial Park School will be removed to make room for a new synthetic turf field. As part of the project, the Esten school will be transformed into an early childhood center that will house all kindergarten students district-wide. In addition, it is our hope to eventually offer free, full-day pre-school which would also be housed in the Esten School. The plan is for the new Rockland Elementary School to open its doors in the fall of 2023.
