MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION

Meds

School medication policies have been put in place to ensure the health and safety of children needing medicine during the school day.

The Rockland Public School district requires that the following forms must be on file in your child’s school health office before any prescribed medication can be given at school.

  • Signed consent by the parent or guardian to give the medicine.

  • Signed medication order. Please obtain a signed medication order from your child’s licensed prescriber (physician, nurse practitioner, etc.) and submit to the school nurse. The order must be renewed each school year.

Medication should be delivered to the school nurse in a current labeled pharmacy or manufacturer container by you or a responsible adult whom you designate. Please ask your pharmacy to provide separate bottles for school and home. No more than 30 day supply of medication should be delivered to the school. The first dose of newly prescribed medication will not be administered at school.

When your child needs medication to be given during the school day, please act quickly to follow these policies so we may begin to give medicine as soon as possible. Medication consent forms may be found under the “Forms” tab on the health Service home page.

Over the Counter Medications can be given at school. Please speak to your school nurse and have the following form filled out and returned.
