Getting Ready for Kindergarten

Kindergarten is such an important time in your child's education. It is your child's first real public school experience. It is a year of tremendous emotional, social, and academic growth. We hope that it will be a very meaningful and rewarding experience for you and your child.
1. What session will my child be in? During the summer you will receive a letter indicating which session your child has been assigned.
AM Session: 9:00-11:30
PM Session: 12:30-3:00
2. When will my child be screened? Kindergarten Screening will take place in September before Kindergarten begins.. You will be notified during the summer, the date and time of your child's appointment.
3. What can I do to help my child get ready for kindergarten?
* Go over the "Welcome to Kindergarten" packet, you received at registration. If you did not receive one please stop by school and pick one up. You will find many activities to do over the summer with your child.
*The most important thing you can do for your child is to read to him/her everyday.
* Go to the Rockland Memorial Library and get a library card for your child, if you do not have one.
* Make going to the library a weekly event.
* Check out the activities offered at the library for young children.
* Make a school box. With your child, put together a shoe box with supplies your child will need at home, to finish work, to do " homework" or to make up work. You could put crayons, markers, colored pencils, glue stick and scissors in the school box.
4. What do I need to purchase?
Backpack
Your child will need a backpack, large enough to carry papers, books, snack and other "important stuff!"
